November 23 - 25, 2020
We announce the first international CIBSS Symposium “Signalling across Scales”
Biological signalling events occur over a wide range of spatiotemporal scales – from molecules to organs and from microseconds to lifetimes. To elucidate how living systems orchestrate and integrate these signals represents a major scientific challenge. The researchers at the CIBSS – Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies use interdisciplinary approaches to tackle these questions. CIBSS organizes the first “Signalling Across Scales” conference November 23 – 25, 2020 online: A unique opportunity for international exchange on this emerging subject in the life sciences.
The two and a half day event will bring together international experts from the full range of the Signalling Science community, including structural, chemical, developmental and synthetic biology, metabolic and mitochondrial signalling, immunology, epigenetics, the plant sciences and advanced analytical methodologies. The sessions focus on key topics of CIBSS research like control-of-function, signalling in mitochondria, signalling in roots or during organogenesis.
An opportunity for researchers and students alike
Invited international speakers will present their work along Freiburg researchers from the Cluster of Excellence CIBSS. With poster sessions, flash talks and discussion platforms the conference will allow for ample exchange: A great chance especially for young researchers and students. Early-career scientists are encouraged to present their work and talk to experts in their field. We cordially invite researchers and students from biological signalling to submit their abstracts for the poster session and register for the symposium on this website. We look forward to an exciting conference in November 2020.

What is CIBSS?
The goal of CIBSS is to gain a comprehensive and integrative understanding of biological signalling processes across spatiotemporal scales. The research Excellence Cluster CIBSS at the University of Freiburg, established last year by the federal German government, advances and builds on Signalling Research. This field has been a focus area at the University of Freiburg and the trinational upper Rhine area for more than two decades.
